Codenomicon is Offering a Free Fuzzing Tool
Anyone Can Now Get Access to State-of-the-art Fuzzing Technology
OULU, FINLAND and CUPERTINO, CA - February 3rd, 2010 - Codenomicon is offering everyone the opportunity to tests its FTP test suite free of charge. The purpose is to give everyone a chance to try out fuzz-testing in their own test environment. The tool is also intended for educational purposes in schools and universities.
Codenomicon released a new generation DEFENSICS 3 testing platform in May 2008 and new versions are already available for most of the tools. Thus Codenomicon has decided to contribute back to the community and offer free licenses for its older tools. FTP was an easy choice for the first free release, because of its continued importance in various different networks, it provides an easy-to-setup target for anyone wishing to learn more about fuzzing. FTP is a protocol used in file transfer in the Internet.
Codenomicon recommends disclosing any security vulnerabilities you might find in a responsible manner. Please contact CERT-FI, or your local CERT if you think you might have found a potential security problem using this tool.
This is not the first time that Codenomicon has provided a free testing tool in attempt to further awareness of information security vulnerabilities. The founding members of the company took part in OUSPG university research program. One of research group’s projects was the widely acclaimed PROTOS project. The tools developed during the project are freely available online and are popular among professional testers. In addition Codenomicon has allowed open source projects to use its tools free of charge under its CROSS-initiative for over two years.
